2016 Broadmoor Open: A Humble Start to the New Season

June 27th, 2016

Overall, our athletes had typical early season performances with some big errors, although each program also had its bright spots. As the season progresses, it will be fun to watch them grow and improve. Some highlights include:

  • Luke Kirchgessner (Junior) skated a CLEAN short program complete with a beautiful 3F3T combination! He earned a score of 53.91 points, earning the bronze medal in the short program event! He also skated a nearly clean freeskate, claiming the Pewter medal.
  • Colton Johnson skated a solid, nearly clean program in the Junior Men’s Freeskate Event, earning a score of 90.32. He landed a gorgeous 3Lz in the warm-up and continues to get closer to landing it in competition!
  • Andrew Sena bounced back from a frustrating short program and put up a strong fight for each jumping pass, pulling off a beautiful 3T2T and 3S!
  • Olivia Pope competed a beautiful freeskate in the Novice Ladies Qualifying Round, advancing her to the Final Round.
  • Olivia Slack competed in the Intermediate Ladies Qualifying Round and made some great improvements since she last competed, notably landing her double flip in competition!
  • Aerial Jump Challenge:
    • Luke Kirchgessner landed a huge 3F3L2T combo, among other triples, placing 4th in the Qualifying Round & 6th in the Semifinal Round, nearly qualifying for the Final Round.
    • Although Colton did not qualify for final round, everyone in the audience could see how much fun he had competing in this event! He fully attempted a 3Lz, and completed a beautiful 3T and 2A. He even received a few 8’s (10 point scale)!

This competition was a great learning experience for our participating athletes and we’re excited to see what the season brings for them! It is a good start to the new season for these athletes, especially as consistency increases. CONGRATULATIONS to all your successes thus far!
